Creating a strong sense of identity and providing houses, spaces and facilities to meet the needs of the local community will be important to the success of this proposal. To achieve this, we think the following issues need to be considered:

  • How we create a sense of place
  • The character and appearance and how it varies across the site
  • How building density (the number of homes per hectare) should vary across the site
  • What facilities should be provided and the best location for these
  • The types of houses that local people need
  • The types of open spaces that need to be provided

Other, please state:

The development would include areas of natural vegetation and open spaces, new networks of public parks, paths, sports provision and allotments as well as new green community/events spaces.

Transport and access are key factors to be addressed as part of the design. There are already good transport links in the area and we want to make sure these are easily accessible to the new development and that we enhance transport links for existing and new residents as the development grows.

With this in mind, we are currently undertaking a number of studies looking at:

  • Where the main vehicle and pedestrian access points should be
  • How traffic flow along the A59 and Boroughbridge Road can be improved and made safer
  • How local bus services and the existing train stations can be improved
  • How walking and cycling provision can be delivered to provide better connections to services
